Biochar Systems in Ghana

چکیده
Biochar is a pyrolysed biomass, incorporated into soil for improvement of health. added to soils holds the potential triple-win livelihoods, environment and climate. In environments where lot biomass generated poses disposable challenges, biochar remains viable alternative solving both agronomic environmental problems, especially in highly degraded soils. Considerable research over years have indicated its solve many however there still lack knowledge about specific aspects production use. Also, number assertions related positive impact agriculture not been well explained scientifically verified. Ghana, on recent currently uncoordinated with outputs clearly documented visible. There urgent need review available information Ghana provide expert opinion feasibility embedding technology farming systems. The aim this paper present an in-depth as it relates management. Challenges technology, formulation, feedstock availability adoption rates are discussed. wide array feedstocks from agricultural residues. -l quantity application has pronounced effect maize grain yield 5 t ha significantly yielded more than 2.5 . Soils amended cocoa pod increased by 56 % compared un-amended soil. can contribute improving crop productivity smallholdings although supply value chains formalized product unfamiliar most communities. Policies that integrate sustainable intensification recommended.

The present paper has determined the radioactivity concentrations, which are due to natural occurrence of radionuclides along with heavy metal concentration in water, sediment, and fish from 2 reservoirs in Ghana. Heavy metal concentrations in all samples were generally within the WHO safe limits with the average activity concentrations of 238U, 232Th, and 40K in water being respectively 0.42±0...
متن کاملBiochar Application to Soils
Biochar application to soils is being considered as a means to sequester carbon (C) while concurrently improving soil functions. The main focus of this report is providing a critical scientific review of the current state of knowledge regarding the effects of biochar application to soils on soil properties and functions. Wider issues, including atmospheric emissions and occupational health and ...

متن کاملBiochar and denitrification in soils: when, how much and why does biochar reduce N2O emissions?
Agricultural soils represent the main source of anthropogenic N2O emissions. Recently, interactions of black carbon with the nitrogen cycle have been recognized and the use of biochar is being investigated as a means to reduce N2O emissions. However, the mechanisms of reduction remain unclear. Here we demonstrate the significant impact of biochar on denitrification, with a consistent decrease i...
